While it may seem that spring never really arrived, summer is now nearly upon us with some exciting events coming up. Here’s a brief overview:
• Tonari Gumi’s Volunteer Appreciation Party on Saturday, June 30th,
starting from 11:30 a.m. at the Prospect Point Picnic Area in Stanley Park. In appreciation for their service, this event is free for invited volunteers and each volunteer may bring one guest ($10.00 guest fee). A special picnic bento (lunch) is included along with games and prizes. This is a fun event. Additional information as to guest reservations and transport is available from Tonari Gumi.
• 36th Annual Powell Street Festival on Saturday and Sunday, August 4-5
at Oppenheimer Park in Vancouver. Tonari Gumi will be there with delicious Japanese “matsuri food”, unique handicraft items produced by our seniors, our famous “Home Away from Home” cookbook and many other items only available at Vancouver’s largest Japanese Canadian festival. Anyone who has some time in early August and is willing to volunteer should contact Tonari Gumi as soon as possible.
• Tonari Gumi’s 3rd Biennial Reunion Picnic on Saturday, August 18th
at the Jericho Pond Picnic Area at Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver. This is a multi-generational, old-fashioned community picnic for everyone who either is, has been or wants to be involved with Tonari Gumi. Come and see old friends and make some new friends. Bring your children and grandchildren and re-connect with the Japanese Canadian community here in Vancouver. Come for good food, great company, and a chance to help build memories for future generations. More details forthcoming.
