Sampling of some of the July/August Programs

IMG_0704Starting from this year, Tonari Gumi has started a new summer session with a wide variety of old and new programs and workshops during the months of July and August. While most of our programs are designed for seniors, a number of new programs over the summer are open to all ages and are intended for the general public. Some examples are as follows:

  • Workshop on Overcoming a Lack of Exercise

o 3 Saturday sessions in July: July 12, 19 and 26 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
o 3 Saturday sessions in Aug.: Aug. 9, 23 & 30 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
o Learn from an accomplished athlete how to use dumbbells and a stretch pole to give your body new tone and strength. Also learn how to relax and to renew your body.

  • Hula Dance Workshop (for those under 60 years of age)

o 3 Saturday sessions in July: July 12, 19 and 26 from 11:15 – 12:15 p.m.
o 3 Saturday sessions in Aug.: Aug. 9, 23, and 30 from 11:15 – 12:15 p.m.
o Learn Hawaiian Hula dancing and improve your fitness — a non-impact approach by gradually synchronizing your body movements to the music.

  • Needle Felt Workshop

o 1 Saturday session on August 9 from 10:00 – 12:00 noon.

  • Decorative Sushi Making Workshop

o 3 Saturday sessions in July: July 12, 19 and 26 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
o Beautiful to look at, delicious to eat. From novice to experienced sushi makers will learn to make some 8 different varieties of sushi. Great for parties and to be enjoyed by family and friends.  IMG_0332






  • Parent and Child Sushi Making Workshop

o One Saturday session on August 9th at 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
o Learn to make delicious sushi together with your children. Have fun creating unique sushi from a professional sushi chef.
